• Graduated with Honours Degree in English from Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh and joined the LL.B. Course in Punjab University, Chandigarh.
• Enrolled as an Advocate in 1981. Practiced law on civil, criminal and revenue side as well as cases relating to Labour Law, Company Law, Service Law and The Constitution of India.
• Worked as Public Prosecutor, UT, Chandigarh Administration, in the High Court since 1992-93 and Additional Central Government Standing Counsel.
• Represented Union Public Service Commission, Central Administrative Tribunal, Chandigarh and Punjab and Haryana High Court. Also represented various Boards/Corporations/Institutions and State of Haryana in civil and criminal matters in the High Court.
• Elevated as a Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court, on Mar 22, 2006.
• Transferred to Allahabad High Court and took oath on Dec 09, 2011.
• Appointed as Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court w.e.f 07.10.2019
