• Graduated in Science (Physics Honours) from the Calcutta University, B.A. (Honours School of Jurisprudence) at University of Oxford, Oriel College.
• Enrolled as an Advocate of the Calcutta High Court in 4th August, 1970.
• Practised in Calcutta High Court in civil matters since 1970.
• Elevated as a permanent Judge of the Calcutta High Court on 6th August, 1990.
• Appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court from 7th June, 2004 to 10th January, 2005 and took oath as Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court on 11th January, 2005.
• Transferred to Sikkim High Court as Chief Justice on Jan 27, 2007.
